Refined over years of travel, here are my go collection I bring when traveling. Contents can vary depending on destination and the climate I expect to navigate.
Primary Bag
We rarely check in a bag while flying. To pull this off, you have to be judicious with what you bring and the bag you travel with. After years of experiments with other options, I’ve landed on the Patagonia Black Hole 60L Duffel Bag. I like the flexibility of this bag. I often use it as a backpack while traveling in airports. Once on the plane, the bag fits nicely in the overhead container.
Secondary Bag
My go to travel bag is the Patagonia Messenger Bag. The messenger bag serves a dual purpose as my day pack and carry on bag while flying. It’s durable with good size and side pockets.
My laptop, headphones and other electronics live in this bag for easy access while in flight.
Electronics
I’m a big fan of music and podcasts. Both help passes the time on long flights or entertains during downtime while traveling. My go to headphones are the Bose QuiteComfort 35 Wireless Headphones. The Bose Headphones come with a nice wired option that can be used the plane’s entertainment system requires wired headphones. The Bose remain charged for hours and recharge really quick. Price is steep but from my perspective worth it.
I like to run while traveling, so I also bring BeatsX Headphones. These are the first pair of running headphones I’ve loved. They offer good – not great – sound quality, but stay attached, unlike most other pairs I’ve tried.
We travel overseas quite a bit and love the flexibility the Travel Inspira power adapter offers. Having a surge protect built-in adds a sense of security. The two USB plugs are the cherry on top.
The jury is still out on my new 15-inch Apple Mac Book Pro. I debated between the 13-inch and 15-inch and may have some buyers remorse with my decision. I find the touch bar gimmicky and I often accidentally hit it while typing. This can cause mishaps that border on annoying.
My iPhone 6s is the Swiss Army knife of devices. From entertainment to work to photography, it’s my go to electronic accessory.
I’m slowly transitioning to USB C and always running out of power on my devices. My solution is USB C Power Bank RAVPower. Not only does it add power to my various devices, but also can power my new Mac Book Pro. It’s a bit heavy, but you can’t beat the power output for the price.
With all these devices, it’s a struggle to keep the number of cords to a minimum. One solution is to employ Skiva USBLink Due Short 2-in-1 Sync and Charge Cable; which allows me to charge to the RAVPower, iPhone/iPads, BeatsX, and Bose Headphones.
